It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joao Graca on Sunday, January 21, 2024. Joao passed away peacefully at home in his 90th year with loving family by his side.
He is reunited with his beloved wife of 50 years (Elvira) and survived by his loving son Luis (Krystyna), daughter Susana, daughter-in-law Tina, cherished grandson Aron, and Sister Sula (Jose). He will also be greatly missed by dear family friend and companion Rosa, Anabela (Patrick), Richard, and extended family and friends.
Born in Lisbon, Portugal, Joao was a dedicated, hardworking man who at an early age, attended seminary school. He later served in the Air Force and became an electronics radar specialist where he fulfilled his desire to travel across much of Europe and Africa.
In 1969, Joao immigrated to Canada with his wife and children. He valued family and friends above all else and had a great sense of humour that would liven any conversation. He was well learned and also known for his wit and philosophical discussions. Joao will be greatly missed and fondly remembered as “Pai” and “Vovo”, beloved father and grandfather and will forever live in our hearts.
Visitation will be held at Morley Bedford Funeral Home on Thursday, January 25th, from 9-11am followed by a prayer service and internment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family has requested donations be made to the Heart and Stoke Foundation.
