Mr. Joao “John” Carvalho
It is with heavy hearts we announce that Joao “John” Carvalho has peacefully departed with his family by his side on April 22 2024, at the age of 86 following a brief illness.
Born on the beautiful Azorean Island of St. Michaels, Portugal on March 27, 1938, he was a man of many talents and a loving patriarch.
John is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Jacinto and Maria de Gloria Carvalho and son Bobby Carvalho, along with several cherished family members: mother-in-law Ana De Jesus, father-in-law Jose Rodrigues, sister Maria Eduarda Tavares, brothers Jacinto and Jose Luis Carvalho, brother-in-law Francisco Tavares, sister-in-law Olga Carvalho, son-in-law Ron Percy, nephews Durval and Jacinto Tavares, Paul Jorge Rodrigues, sister-in-law Gloria Cordiero, and brothers-in-law Manuel Medeiros and Manuel Rodrigues.
In 1966, John found his soulmate in Hirondina Rodrigues, and their union was blessed with six children. Together, they embarked on a journey to Canada in 1973, where John’s skills in gardening, masonry, and winemaking earned him admiration within the burgeoning Portuguese community. From 1975 until 1997, John dedicated himself to Northern Wood Preserves, contributing his hard work and expertise.
John’s legacy extends far beyond his professional accomplishments. He was the cornerstone of a large and close-knit family, always ready to offer support and guidance. His strength and love paved the way for future generations, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him. He was not only a skilled tradesman but also a beacon of hospitality and warmth. His home was always open, and all who entered were greeted with open arms and made to feel like family.
John had a knack for making people laugh, and his jovial spirit ensured that guests felt welcomed and at ease. No one left his home hungry or in need, as he took great pleasure in ensuring everyone was comfortable and well fed.
John leaves behind his devoted wife of 57 years, Hirondina, and their sons: John (Margarida), George (Leslie), Jose, and daughters: Anna (Ray), and Fatima (Kyle). He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren: Andrew (Nicole), Amber (Keaton), Jordan (Courtney), Jayden (Chad), Michael (Katlyn), Marcus (Leah), Nicholas (Mikayla), Lucas (Manira), Kai and Brandon (Kayleigh), as well as his great-grandchildren: Kinsley, Oakley, Blakely, Stetson, and Dawson.
Funeral services for John Carvalho will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2024, with family and friends assembling in St. Anthony’s R.C. Church for Funeral Mass at 10:30 am. Visitation will take place one hour prior. Interment to follow in the family plot, St. Andrew’s R.C. Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Dr. Migay and the nursing staff of 4North, for the care of our dad.
If friends so desire, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
Though he may have left this world, John’s spirit lives on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
