The family is
saddened to announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother,
grandmother & great grandmother Joan Marie (Hadley) Pearson of
Antigonish on July 14, 2024, in the Palliative Care Unit of St Marthas
Regional Hospital.
Born in
Montreal, QC on Jun 23, 1940, Joan was the only child of the Late
Herman & Eileen (Vennor)
Hadley.
Joan attended
school in Sydney, Mabou, Antigonish, and Mount Saint Vincent
University, Halifax. She graduated from St. Martha’s School
of Nursing, Antigonish, Class of 1961, and received her BSc Nursing
from St. Francis Xavier University, Antigonish, in 1971. During her
nursing career, she worked in Montreal, London Ontario, and for 28
years she worked at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital as an instructor in
the School of Nursing, as a nursing supervisor, and as head
nurse. She took early retirement in
1993.
Joan was a
kind, compassionate, and loving person who always had time for others.
She adored her family, she was immensely proud of her son, she
cherished her grandchildren &
great-granddaughter.
For over 30
years Dennis & Joan together built a life filled with laughter
love and unforgettable memories
We would like
to recognize a wonderful supportive group of friends and family
including a special bond & friendship that has lasted well
over 60 years, with her best friend, and sister by heart, Patricia
Mongeau along with her husband Raymond; childhood friends Joyce
Hilling & Josie O’Connor; the bridge ladies aka the
«Motley Crew»; all her hospital buddies (talk about good
times); the 1961 Class reunions of St. Martha’s
School of Nursing, and the best neighbours in the world. Her
friends were an integral part of her life, and she treasured the
moments spent with them.
Joan is
survived by her husband and best friend Dennis Pearson Antigonish, two
children from her first marriage to the late Bryon Currie; Ann Currie
(PEI), devoted son Michael Currie (Trudy DeCoste) Halifax;
grandchildren; Craig (Rachelle) Halifax, Amanda (Jordi) Squamish. BC,
Kayla Currie, Halifax, Natasha Currie, Halifax; and great
granddaughter Haisley May; sisters-in-law, Brenda Linton, Ontario,
Rodena «Chicky» (Terry McKinnon), Ontario; brother-in-law
Austin Pearson, Ontario and by marriage stepmother to Darlene Pearson,
Antigonish; stepson Howard Pearson Brooklin, NS and stepson Glenn
Pearson (Lori) Frasers Mt, NS and many special nieces and
nephews.
Besides her
parents, she is predeceased by her mother and father in-law Jane and
Cecil Pearson; sister-in-law Anita; brothers-in-law Tomas MacKenzie,
Dave Linton, and Ronald Pearson, and nephew Terry
MacKinnon.
She braved the
storms of life’s challenges and has left us with the admiration of her
courage. She will be deeply missed but her memory will remain a source
of comfort and inspiration to all who knew
her.
Visitation
will take place in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street,
Antigonish on Thursday, July 18th 3-6 pm. Funeral Services will take
place at a later date.
Memorial
donations may be made to St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Palliative
Care Unit.
