It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Joan Kozel (née Banbury) on July 3, 2023, in her 84th year. With her family at her side Joan passed away after a courageous fight.
Survived by her son Brian, daughter Brenda (Mike), grandchildren Erin (Andrew), Michele (Johnny), and Shawn (Victoria), and her great-grandchildren Wells, Adeline, Layla, Bennett, Emma, and a baby boy any day. Also survived by her sister Gwen (predeceased by Morley). Predeceased by her parents Earl and Blanche, sister Betty, brother Robert (survived by Margaret Anne), and grandson Nick.
Joan was a good friend to many. Most notably her friends in her retirement community and her best friend of 50 years, Sally. She loved to be out and about, always social. She loved cooking for anyone who would let her. Hundreds of meat pies and cabbage rolls were made with love in Joan’s kitchen. Joan worked for CIBC for over 40 years and was loved by many coworkers and customers at multiple branches throughout her career. The town of Port Dalhousie has always been near and dear to her heart and special to those in her family. In recent years, Joan’s great-grandchildren brought her so much joy and laughter. She always said how happy she was to be a great-grandmother. She will be terribly missed by anyone who knew and loved her.
Special thanks to the staff on the Palliative Care floor at Brantford General Hospital for their gentle and incredibly caring nature during her short time there. As well, special thanks to the staff on the B8 floor for their tireless efforts.
A small and casual Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday July 15th from 3 pm – 6 pm at Circle of Life in Dundas. (additional parking at the Air Force Club)
