Ackerman, Joan
Passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, on Monday, January 1, 2024 at Barnswallow Place Care Community, Elmira, at the age of 92.
Beloved wife of the late Gordon Ackerman (2012). Loving mother of Jim (Anne), the late Tom (Susan) (2021), and Gay (Moss). Beloved Grammy to Emily (Todd), Scott (Theresa), Halle (Andrew), Jackson (Michelle), and Connor (Stephanie). Adoring Great-Grammy to Chase, Harrison, Jake, Ferris, Faye, and Margot. Dear sister of Jim (Gayle).
Joan worked as a librarian assistant at a secondary school for 22 years. Her love of books and reading made this a perfect choice. She was an excellent cook with a keen interest in nutrition. She spent her time gardening, working crosswords, and researching on her computer.
Joan and Gord adored their travel and had many romantic adventures across Europe. During the start of their retirement years, Joan made her dream of owning a cottage come true, and the family spent many years enjoying Lake McKay.
Joan will be most remembered for her intelligence, wit and sense of humour. Laughter was her medicine. She was optimistic, selfless and caring. Her love of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was endless.
Following Joan’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A family celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
Donations to the Arthritis Society of Canada would be appreciated in memory of Joan, and may be made through the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira.
