Obituary of Jim Buggie
It is with great sadness that the family of James “Jim” Robert Buggie announce his passing which occurred on July 20, 2024, at Bobby’s Hospice, Saint John, NB. Born in Renous, NB on November 17, 1949, he was the son of the late Robert and Mary (Furlong) Buggie.
Jim was a graduate of St. Thomas High School, Chatham, NB, 1967; St. Thomas University, Fredericton, NB with a BA in 1971 and BEd in 1972; followed by a post graduate MEd in 1984 from the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, NB. He was an educator all his adult life having taught in Chatham Head, NB; Igloolik, NWT; Dr. Roberts Hospital School, Saint John, NB; Hampton Elementary School, NB; Broughton Island, NWT; Hampton Middle School, NB; and Whitehorse, Yukon.
During his student years, Jim was an avid bowler. As an adult, he pursued his love of nature driving across Canada several times and hiking various trails; his favorite was the Chilkoot Trail – the pathway of Klondike Gold Rush miners from Alaska to BC. Jim enjoyed nature, quiet conversations, a good card game, and an occasional visit to the casino. Jim was a quiet man, a man of faith; maintaining a cool head and a good sense of humor, and always a strong shoulder to lean on.
Jim is survived by his siblings Peggy (Gerald, deceased) Patterson of Paisley, ON; Bill Buggie (Rita) of Pasadena, NL; and Angela Roy (Kevin) of Blackville, NB; also his nephew Robert Buggie and niece Allison Buggie, both of Pasadena, NL. Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home, Hampton, NB. The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, 22 Church Street, Hampton, NB. Reception to follow at Reid’s Funeral Home. A private family interment will take place at a later date in Renous, NB.
The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers of Bobby’s Hospice for their compassion, care, and understanding through these hard days. Donations in memory of Jim may be made to Bobby’s Hospice, Saint John, or the Canadian Cancer Society. Personal condolences to the family and charitable donations may be made through: ReidsFH.com
Words on Jim’s fridge:
«If my heart turns so cold that I have no appreciation for other people, for beautiful things, for goals worth sacrificing time and energy, then I am worse than dead.» Unknown
