OVERBOE: DR. JAMES “JIM” OVERBOE
December 30, 1953 – January 7, 2024
It is with much sorrow our family announces the passing of Jim Overboe at Freeport Palliative Care Facility in Kitchener, after a brief but determined battle with cancer. Predeceased by his parents Ken (1994) and Doreen Overboe (2004), his brother-in-law Frank (2021), and his nephews Tim (2022) and Scott (2023). Loved and missed by his siblings David and Penny, Lorraine and Graham, and Andrea. Uncle Jim to Theresa, Greg, Carrie, Adam and Kendall, Tarryn and Brian, Jason and Stephanie, and Jake and Amanda and their families. Jim is also remembered by special friends Frank Cameron, George Brown, Bill Crawford, and Jasmin Zine.
Jim faced many of his early challenges and formed the strongest friendships in Clinton, Ontario. Jim completed his early education while residing in Clinton but fulfilled his quest for knowledge elsewhere, eventually completing his Bachelor of Social Work at King’s College and moving to BC to complete his Master of Arts at Victoria. Having completed his PhD at UBC, Jim returned to Ontario and embarked on a new journey teaching position at Sir Wilfred Laurier. Brother Jim became Dr. James Overboe. Jim was a professor, who had passion for opening the fertile minds of those who attended his lectures. His methods were appreciated by many as evidenced by the cards and notes that he received during his nineteen plus years at WLU. The cards and notes continued when he entered hospital mid fall.
It was Jim’s wish to donate his body to medical science. We are pleased to announce that his last wishes came true, and he was accepted at Western once again.
Donations to the charity of one’s choice are appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
There will be a Celebration of Jim’s life and legacy at the Royal Canadian Legion, 95 Kirk Street, Clinton on Saturday April 20, 2024, from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m.
