Jim was born on March 25th, 1941, to John and Veronica Strykowski. He was the youngest of five siblings, Joe, Stanley, Caroline, and Tinia. Jim went to school in Preeceville, but his interest in farming superseded his interest in graduating. Initially, he farmed with his dad and brother, Joe. This later changed when he married Caroline Mydan on October 23rd, 1964, and they began to establish their own farm near Ketchen. They welcomed two beautiful children into their lives – Corey on October 31st, 1972, and Pamela on January 21st, 1977. The farm, like most family farms, kept everyone very busy. They grew grain crops but also had a herd of cattle, some pigs, and a flock of chickens. As if Jim wasn’t busy enough, he also drove school bus for 36 years. Before the commitment to their farm, Jim also worked for a transport company out of Stenen, and for a machinery company in Roblin, Manitoba. Jim and Carol retired from the farm in 2003 and moved into town. There is much to say about Jim’s unwavering work ethic and the various jobs he took on without hesitation, but his favorable characteristics do not stop there. Jim was a man of few words, but he was modest, fun, honest, and had a great sense of humor. During conversation Jim would always ask about ‘you and yours’ and was always willing to sit and listen even with such an accomplished family of his own. He always had a willingness to help those around him and enjoyed sharing a pop or coffee at his kitchen table. Jim had a few hobbies like enjoying music, watching TV, fishing, quadding, and snowmobiling. He also had an immense appreciation for ice cream and steak. In his later years, if you saw a clean, polished black Ford ranger with a hula girl dancing on the dash, you could bet it was Jim – off to meet with his coffee crew buddies.
Jim is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Carol, his son Corey (Terri), grandchildren Veronica and Jake; his daughter, Pam (Jason Karcha), grandchildren, Jesse, Kailey, Alyssa, and Kaitlyn; his sisters-in-law, Mary Strykowski, Helen Dziaduck, Pauline Sawka, Evelyn (John) Evaschenko, Beverly (Bob) Larson; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Jim was predeceased by his parents, John and Veronica Strykowski, siblings Joe, Caroline, Stanley, and Tinia, his father and mother-in-law, Steve, and Ann Mydan; brother-in-law Fred Steciuk, Bill Ignatiuk, Ernie Sawka, and Julius Dziaduck. Rest in peace, Jim. You will always be loved, missed, and forever remembered.
