Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Robert James (Jim) Henderson of Owen Sound announces his passing on October 7th, 2023, at the age of 84 years. Born on December 10, 1938 in Owen Sound, Ontario. Husband of the late Audrey B. Henderson (nee Wood) (2012). Loving father of Scott Henderson of Owen Sound and Craig Henderson (Jennifer) of Toronto. Proud grandfather of Renée Henderson. Dear brother of Grace Ruhl and Ken (Lynn) Henderson, sister-in-laws Myrna Collins, Shirley Wood, Jessie Henderson and brother-in-law Bill Wood. He will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Stanley and Ida Henderson (nee Bowman), sister Mary Klages, brother Gordon Henderson, brother-in-laws Arthur Klages, Harvey Ruhl and George Collins.
Jim grew up on the family farm in Keady and attended OSCVI High School in Owen Sound. He attended the University of Guelph and graduated in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. He married Audrey in 1965 and moved to Owen Sound in 1968 from Alexandria, Ontario to become a Chemistry Teacher at West Hill Secondary School until his retirement in 1996. Jim kept active in his retirement devoting many hours of his time to volunteering, travelling and gardening.
The family wishes to express their sincerest thanks to Doctors Doelman, Siddiqi, Gagnier, Lehmann and El Abbassi for the compassionate care they provided during Jim’s stay in the hospital. To Amy Burrows, and the entire Diabetes Grey Bruce Education Department, for their years of support and guidance, and for going above and beyond in offering assistance with Jim’s care while he was hospitalized. Finally, a huge thank you to all the nurses and other support staff members of the 6th floor for their dedication.
Visitation will be held at Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th St. W., Owen Sound, 519-376-7492, on Thursday, October 26, 2023, from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held at Georgian Shores United Church, 997 4th Ave. E., Owen Sound, 519-376-3890, on Friday, October 27, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Marsha Roberts officiating. Interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery.
