Jim Crawford of Watrous passed away on Dec 28th, 2023 in Mesa, Arizona with wife, Gail, at his side.
Jim was born on the family farm north of Viscount, Saskatchewan. When he was 3 years old, the family moved to Sylvania, Saskatchewan where Jim was raised along with his brother Ken and sister Marilynn. Jim went to a county school near Sylvania and later Tisdale which is where he would meet the love of his life, Gail McAvoy, from Star City.
Jim and Gail were married on Aug 22, 1964 and moved to Watrous in 1966. They then started their family, with Mark arriving in 1969 and Kim in 1972. Jim first worked as a mechanic and manager for WestCan School Bus, then went on to set up Crawford Tire, with his brother Ken. Eventually, Jim and Gail established Crawford Insurance and later amalgamated with Gary and Melanie Manson renaming the business Watrous Insurance. They assisted many local Watrous friends and neighbours with their insurance needs for 30 years, retiring in 2007.
Family was very important to Jim. For his whole life, Jim made sure memories were being made with the family. This included many family camping trips and the annual downhill skiing adventure. Jim also built a beautiful cabin at Waskesiu that the Crawford family and friends enjoyed many summers fishing, water skiing and time together at the lake.
Jim could fix or build anything. It didn’t matter if it was wood-related or mechanical, Jim would tackle any job. He was always willing to help or give advice to anyone who needed a hand. Jim also had a passion and love for farming and enjoyed a decade of hobby farming in Viscount at the family farm site.
Jim is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gail Crawford; son Mark Crawford and wife Marianne, and grandchildren Belle and Andrew. He is predeceased by his daughter Kim Stokke and survived by son-in-law Greg Stokke and grandchildren Spencer and Preston Stokke.
Jim will be sadly missed by all. A Graveside Service will be held at the Watrous Cemetery in the Spring of 2024. Interment in Watrous Columbarium.
