It is with great sadness, the family of Jessie Marsh would like to announce her passing on June 5, 2023 at the Golden Heights Manor, where she died peacefully with her family by her side.
Predeceased by her husband Fred, son George, daughter Wanda and granddaughter Nicole. Also her parents Joseph and Violet Stagg, brothers, Gordon, Maxwell, Gilbert, Wesley and sister Hilda.
Left to mourn with fond memories are her children Wade (Ruby), Connie (Nathan), grandchildren Stephen (Nancy), Robbie (Doreen), Wanda-Lee (Todd), Travis (Estrel), Brandon and Ethan, great-grandchildren Nickolas, Ryan, Jorja, Gavin, Sadie and Ayden, sister Margaret (Hans) Baker and daughter-in-law Maisie.
At a young age, she lost both her parents and was raised by her older sister Hilda and brother-in-law Hubert. She went to work at the Bonavista fish plant and also helped her aunt Hilda Moakler care for special needs children in Kelligrews.
She married Fred and had four children. While raising their family, they started their own business. They opened a little store in Bailey’s Cove. Then they moved to Church Street and opened a small restaurant and games room. They expanded the business and opened Marsh’s Take-out and later opened the Little Dairy King and the Sunset Lounge. Jessie flipped many burgers in a frying pan and hand peeled buckets of potatoes. Her joy of cooking continued over the years. She loved to cook for her family and every Sunday the staff at Marsh’s Take-out.
After the tragic passing of Wanda, Nicole, George and then Fred, she always said her grandchildren got her through it all. They kept her busy and there was nothing that they asked of her, that she wouldn’t do. Robbie, Brandon and Ethan could tell you a few stories like breaking all the glass in the picture frames playing hockey in the living room.
She dearly loved her children. She waited with the remote control to watch Little House on the Prairie every supper time with Wade. She loved her visits with him and Ruby and told Ruby, Wade was finally tamed down. Connie and Nathan moved in with her and looked after her for 13 years before she resided at the Golden Heights Manor. She told them every day how much she appreciated the care they gave her. When Nathan moved in at a young age, she treated him like one of her own and they developed a special bond that he will never forget. They were best buddies.
She loved all of the staff at the Golden Height’s Manor and appreciated everything they did for her. Whether it was feeding her a meal or getting a glass of water, there was always a thank you. And her words were “Don’t worry about me, I’m looked after here.
Even though she didn’t have an easy life with the tragic passing of her family, she always carried a smile. Those that knew her, loved her. She was the most amazing mother and grandmother. She is now moved on to heaven with the rest of her family and will be dearly missed by those whose heart she touched.
Visitation will be held at Strathie’s Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 6th and Wednesday, June 7th from 2:00-4:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm
Funeral Service will take place on Thursday, June 8th at 2:00pm at Memorial United Church.
