Durant, Jessie Amelia, age
87, of Pomquet, passed away at the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home on May
20, 2023.
Born in St.
Peter’s, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Agnes
Sampson.
Jessie was a
teacher in her early years but retired to devote her life to raising
her eight children, along with her husband Charlie. She was
a devote Catholic who found strength and comfort in praying the rosary
and attending Mass. She was a wise, strong woman, known for
her witty comments, poetic turn of phrase, playing cards, doing
crosswords and love of music, dancing and
reading.
She will be
greatly missed by her children: Maria (Billy) Morell, Pomquet;
Charlene (Dave) Young, Dagger Woods; Kathleen «Katie» (Pat)
Olson, Steep Rock, Man.; Raymond, Pomquet; Barry (Rachel) Durant,
L’Ardoise; Wanda (Barry) MacKenzie, Pomquet; Keith (Maria)
Durant, Pomquet; sister-in-law, Bernadette Sampson, Manitoba;
seventeen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren of whom she was
so proud; and many nieces and nephews in Cape Breton and
beyond.
She was
predeceased by her husband Charlie and son,
Germaine.
Visitation
will be in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish on
Friday from 5:00 to 8:00. Funeral Mass will be held in Ste. Croix
Church, Pomquet on Saturday, May 27th at 11:00 am with Reverend Dennis
Lamey presiding. Burial in the parish
