Jeanette Marie Newman Obituary
Jeanette Newman, cherished wife, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully in Calgary, Alberta, on October 11th 2024 at the age of 86. Born on September 10, 1938, in Storthoaks, Saskatchewan, Jeanette’s life was a testament to her love for family, her zest for life, and her deep commitment to her community.
Jeanette grew up in Storthoaks Saskatchewan on a farm with her parents and sisters. Her later years of schooling were attending a boarding school in Winnipeg and then she had a 2nd family in Regina where she lived with the Ortmans for her high school years. After her high school years she stayed in Regina.
Jeanette met the love of her life, Robert Newman on a blind date while working at Saskatchewan Power. Their connection was immediate, and they married on September 2, 1961 when Bob was finished his university education. Shortly after, they relocated to Lacrosse, Wisconsin, where their first child, Debra, was born. The family’s journey continued with a move to Ottawa, where they welcomed their remaining three children.
In 1972, the Newmans moved to Calgary, Alberta, where they lived until 1990. That year, they made their way to Tsawwassen, BC, which Jeanette and Bob came to cherish as their favorite home. Their years in Tsawwassen were filled with joy as they bought a boat and created many special memories boating on the ocean with friends and family. Family summer vacations were wonderful memories for everyone as we spent time in their home and playing in the ocean just steps away. Jeanette and Bob later moved to Vernon, BC, where they embraced a new community, enjoying curling, golfing, and the scenic beauty of the Okanagan.
In 2021, they returned to Alberta to be closer to their family, settling in Okotoks. Jeanette was known for her vibrant social life. She was an enthusiastic participant in curling during the winter and golfing during the summer. Her love for walking and the outdoors was matched by her extensive social circle. Jeanette’s warm, engaging presence and her commitment to her friends and activities were hallmarks of her life.
Jeanette was the beloved wife of Robert Newman. She is survived by her children, Deb (Brian) McIntyre, Robert (deceased) Deb Newman, Cheryl (Glenn) Tackaberry, and Rick Newman. She was a proud grandmother to Brady, Bryce, and Brett McIntyre; Patrick and Colin Newman; Brendan (Lindsay) Tackaberry, with their children Gemma, Ella, and Judah, Aaron Tackaberry, Dannica Tackaberry (Dylan O’Sullivan) and Jamie Fenton, with his two children Aiva And Adrian.
Her family and friends will forever cherish the memories they created with her. A memorial service celebrating Jeanette’s life will be held on Saturday October 19th at 11:30 am at St. James Catholic Church 338060 32 Street East Okotoks .
