Jean Lloyd Wharton passed away with her loving family by her side at the Golden & District Hospital on January 17, 2023 at 91 years of age. Jean was born in Denton, Lancashire, England. It was there she started her career as a Legal Secretary. She was a terrifically adventurous woman.
Her love of life, dancing and adventures were awesome. This is when she met her late husband “Wally”, and their life together began. They were married in 1957 and immigrated in 1958. They traveled by ship, took the Greyhound across Canada, where they landed in Vancouver. This is where they would call home for the next 12 years. Mother loved Vancouver; she worked as a Legal Secretary for the great lawyers of Vancouver. Her love of dancing took her to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver where she was awarded a gold medal in ballroom dancing. Between all that, they welcomed the birth of their three children, Wanda, Wally and Wayne. In 1972, Alan was offered a job with Evan’s Forest Products, so they all moved to Golden and resided in Habart where they built a house and raised their children. While raising her three children, she continued working as a Legal Secretary at Ewan & MacKenzie until she retired at 69 years of age.
Anyone that knew Jean, knew she had a huge heart of gold and cared deeply for so much and for so many, but she wouldn’t hesitate at letting you know what she didn’t like either! She was a lover of Coronation Street and Queen Elizabeth II. She wasn’t a stranger when it came to playing darts and crib, but most of you will know her for being on the golf course! She enjoyed doing many things but let’s not forget, that she also made time for hanging out with the girls’ doing yoga until she was 85 years of age!
She loved all animals but mostly the flickers that she would watch through her kitchen window enjoying the seed and suit that she always made sure there was enough of.
She will be deeply missed and remembered by her children Wanda (Mic) Kwasnicki, Wally (Lisa) Wharton, and Wayne (Tracy Webster) Wharton; her grandchildren Autumn, Braydon, Morgan, Cody, and Alana; her nieces and nephews; her sister, Beryl & Colin Sutcliffe (England) and her brother-in-law, Eric Wharton. She is predeceased by her loving husband, Alan “Wally” Wharton and her parents Ernest & Elsie Bromley.
We want to sincerely thank everyone for the love and care of our mother, especially the following: Sue & Fred Wright for the huge support over the years; Dr. Ginny Clark and the staff at the Golden & District Hospital; Home Support and the staff at Mountain View Assisted Living.
She loved her flowers but in lieu of flowers, she would want donations to be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation and the SPCA at this time.
A Celebration of Life will be at the Seniors Centre in Golden, BC on June 24, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. We all know she never liked the cold!
