Jared Milne, a man whose passion and dedication to his community and country knew no bounds, left a legacy of inspiration after his passing on September 13th, 2024 in St. Albert, Alberta.
Son to Bev and Jeff Milne and big brother to Carly, Jared was a beacon of light who loved his family deeply. His broad family circle of aunts, uncles, and cousins, shared a bond of laughter, support, and the joy of countless family gatherings that will continue to be cherished in memories of shared times with Jared. He was predeceased by his dad Jeff, his grandparents Derek and Dorothy Browne, and Jack and Joan Milne.
His academic achievements were just the beginning of his contributions to society, having earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Canadian Studies at the Faculté St. Jean, University of Alberta. Through his studies, he found the fuel for his passion for Canada, fostering national unity, embracing bilingualism, and advocating for reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples. His education was not merely a personal achievement but was the springboard that launched him into a life of writing, civic participation, and volunteerism.
Writing was Jared’s main outlet for expressing his views on complex questions about Canadian society and sparking debate. He was genuinely intrigued by others’ views and loved a good conversation where divergent opinions were respectfully shared and heard. Membership in organizations like Toastmasters and the St. Albert Taxpayers Association, as well as his participation in groups like St. Albert Poliwings, were not just pastimes but platforms from which Jared could advocate for unity and conciliation.
There was also a lighter, imaginative side to Jared, seen in his creative endeavors writing fan-fiction. His tales transported readers, offering an escape and a reflection of his boundless creativity.
When Jared was diagnosed with cancer in July 2024, his strength and resiliency shined through. He was at peace with what was to come and remained positive, determined to enjoy the time he had left. He was perpetually grateful to all of the «rock star» doctors and nurses helping him. Jared’s family would especially like to thank Dr. Peter Chung, AHS Regional Palliative Care team and Home Care Palliative nurses, Dr. Michelle Tubman and nurses Karen and Christy, as well as paramedics Mel and Alyssa, and Ben and Tanner for their exceptional attention and compassionate care.
A Celebration of Life for Jared will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024 at 2:00 PM in the Progress Hall, located within the Arden Theatre at St. Albert Place, 5 St. Anne Street, St. Albert, Alberta.
In lieu of flowers, please consider giving to any of the many organizations Jared supported, including: Indspire, First Nations Child and Family Caring Society, The Legacy of Hope Foundation, The Indigenous Residential Schools and Survivors Society, Reconciliation Canada, Samara Centre for Democracy, and The Association for Canadian Studies.
Arrangements entrusted to Connelly-McKinley St. Albert Funeral Home.
