Remembering Jane
MacDonald, Jane Marie (MacEachen) – 57 of Tatamagouche passed away November 7, 2023 in the Intensive Care Unit of the QEII VG Site, after a brief but severe illness. Jane was born in Sydney on May 5, 1966 to Reginald and Marie (MacPherson) MacEachen of Sydney. She attended Sydney Academy, graduating in 1984. From there she went to Dalhousie University earning her Bachelor of Science in Kineseology in 1988. Shortly after this, Jane joined the RCMP, and after training in Regina, she made her way to Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland, where she spent 5 years. Being originally from Cape Breton, she was quickly accepted as an “Almost Newfoundlander” while there. Jane then was off to Ottawa where she performed on the RCMP Musical Ride for the next 5 years. She toured extensively throughout North America during this time, and was lucky enough to have gone to London, England, to perform for Queen Elizabeth II. In 2002, in an effort to get closer to her family in Cape Breton, Jane took a posting as a Constable in Tatamagouche, NS. It was here she met Kent MacDonald, a Tatamagouche native, they were married in 2005, recently having celebrated their 18th anniversary. Jane retired from duty with the RCMP in June 2022, and was settling in to her newfound freedom and rediscovering some of her favorite pass times in recent months.
Left to mourn are her husband, Kent MacDonald, Tatamagouche; mother, Marie MacEachen, Sydney; brothers Reginald (Bonnie-Lou) MacEachen, Louisbourg, and Ronald MacEachen, Sydney; niece Kathryn (Liam) MacKenzie, Sydney, and nephew Reginald MacEachen, BC; father and mother-in-law, Rev. Ross and Elizabeth MacDonald, brothers in law, Ian (Nancy), Paul (Christie), all of Tatamagouche, Peter (Pat), Kingston; nephews in law, Randy, Colin, Ben, Liam and Jack. She was predeceased by her father, Reginald MacEachen.
Visitation on Saturday, November 11 between the hours of 1pm-4pm in Coulter’s Funeral Home, 48 Riverside Dr., Tatamagouche. A Private Funeral will be held with Rev. Linton Worrell officiating. Thanks to the Doctors and Nurses in the Emergency Room and the ICU at the Truro Hospital and the ICU at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax, especially Dr. Leo Ferris who went above and beyond to give Jane the best possible care in her final days. In keeping with Jane’s love of all animals, donations in her memory can be made to the Colchester Branch SPCA, or Hope for Wildlife.
