With profound sadness the family of Jane Ann Grant (nee Barnhardt) announces her passing at home surrounded by her loving family on April 28, 2023 in her 65th year, after a courageous battle from the relentless disease ALS.
Jane will be forever remembered by her devoted husband of 45 years and love of her life Rick, children Kyle (Brooklyn), Meghan (John) and Jeff (Sanaya) whom she was very proud of, her cherished and adored grandchildren Cassidy, Tyson, Eva, Kate and Emmett. Mother Enid, Siblings Wendy (Bob), Roy, Dan (Carol), Lorraine (Randy) and Don (Sandra), Mother in Law Lorraine numerous nieces and nephews and large extended family and her precious fur baby a Border Collie named Tikka. Predeceased by her father Fred in 2006.
Jane was born on December 22, 1957 in Cranbrook, British Columbia. Married to Rick on September 10,1977 they shared their first home in Cranbrook and later Kimberley where they had their 3 children. She played many special roles in her children’s lives and was always there for them in whatever they chose to do, a constant support and caring mother to them.
Moving in 1990 to Castlegar and 1991 they settled in Jane’s happy place in Robson, British Columbia. A 5 acre scenic property where Jane spent many years tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. Jane had a love of baking and shared her delicious recipes with her family over the years. A favourite was her assorted gift boxes at Christmas that she would send to all of her family. Jane was very creative and loved all sorts of crafts her favourites were knitting, crocheting and sewing and she shared this love with her grandchildren, they spent hours creating all sorts of things with their Gramma. She was a loving and special Gramma; her grandchildren brought her a sense of great pride and much joy. Jane had the opportunity to travel and explore the world and had many memorable trips. She loved nature, camping, hiking and walking, she explored many places and shared many special camping trips with her family that will be remembered fondly. She loved to visit new places and take part in new experiences. She traveled many times over the years to Toronto to visit her daughter and explored many parts of Ontario with her and her family. Jane was a very private person and her priority was to spend time creating memories with her family. We all have many special stories to share. Jane’s work saw her doing many different careers over the years and she attended College late in life to earn her diploma in food services management. Her family was so proud of her and this accomplishment. She enjoyed her work but her main focus was her family.
Our family would like to thank with heartfelt gratitude the many caregivers, doctors, nurses, therapists, friends, neighbours and others that helped her during her time with ALS. Most importantly we would like to recognize the care and attention that she received from her husband Rick. A labour of love that saw Jane receive the most exemplary, selfless and compassionate care. Her Sister Lorraine was a source of strength and we would like to thank her for her support and love. We would like to thank the loving, compassionate care of Doctor Ellen Smart and Jane’s personal Caregiver Cynthia Fleet of Integrity Living Solutions. We would also like to recognize the importance of the following organizations and are forever grateful for their services: The ALS society of British Columbia, CAYA, PROP and Interior Health. There were so many people that helped her on her journey with ALS and we are grateful to them all.
Jane fought hard against ALS and we consider her our earthly angel imparting the most amazing wisdom to us as she battled the disease with an immense amount of strength, dignity, grace and patience. We learned many lessons from her that we will carry with us forever. She had a wonderful life well lived that was full of love. We will miss you forever and will hold you in our hearts for eternity. In lieu of flowers, donations to the ALS society of British Columbia in Jane’s Name would be appreciated by the family. A private service will be held at a later date.
