It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Jamie Lee Currie of Val-des-Monts, Quebec; originally from Newfoundland. Jamie passed peacefully away at Maison des Collines located at the Wakefield Memorial Hospital in Wakefield Quebec on August 10, 2024 at the age of 48 after a very short illness. Jamie is predeceased by his partner Marc Martin, father David Currie, grandparents Allen and Doris Saunders, Watkin and Vida Currie. He leaves to mourn his mother Wanda (Jim) Coulthard Medicine Hat, Alberta, brother Jason (Penny), nephew Evan, Britannia, Newfoundland, his beloved Goldendoodle Tucker, his partner’s parents, sister, husband and nephew; Gerald & Jeannine Martin, Anick (Jeff) Macdonald and Colt, Moncton, New Brunswick, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and many close friends.
Jamie was born in Baie Verte, Newfoundland and moved to Britannia, Random Island at the age 8 with his family. Growing up in Britannia with his brother along with his cousins in the next garden gave Jamie a sense of family. Jamie moved to Alberta with his parents as a young adult and moved around the country until he finally settled down and made a home in Quebec some 10 years ago. He always loved his Newfoundland roots and was proud of his home province which was reflected in a large tattoo on his calf of the island of Newfoundland. He will now make that final journey home to his beloved province and be once again close to the ocean.
Jamie’s love for people created the foundation of a lifelong career working in the service industry. He worked at some of the top hotels and venues across the country and was always passionate about the work he did and the people he met along the way. His presence would always fill the room and this will undoubtedly be hard to replace.
Those who knew Jamie knew he loved a social and he enjoyed time with friends. He always had the next adventure planned and eager to go. He was certainly a social butterfly and very proud of it. For those who had the pleasure to call him a friend, his loss leaves a huge void in everyone’s lives but take solace in the fact that Jamie lived for today and never concerned himself with tomorrow. He is smiling at you all now.
A special thank you to the staff at La Maison des Collines, co-workers at Le Belvedere and the Sandman Hotel along with a very close group of friends who spent many hours by his side over the past few weeks. Your professionalism, kindness and thoughtfulness will never be forgotten.
