James Christopher Meadows:
James (Jamie to his family & friends during his school years) was born in Longueuil, Quebec in March 1994. Jamie was a happy child. Along with his older brother Geoff, he loved playing with Lego, building all sorts of creations, as well as playing in the back yard & the pool.
When Jamie was age three, the entire family returned to the UK for a four year European assignment. Jamie started school at Christchurch Infants school, very close to the south coast of England. The boys would often get to go the beach after school & on the weekends. They would be happy for hours playing in the sand, using their imaginations, to build castles, tanks & aircraft in the sand, that the boys could sit & play in. Jamie made many friends at Christchurch Infant school who missed him, when we returned to Canada.
Jamie was seven when we arrived back in Ontario & decided to settle in Hespeler. He attended Woodland Park Elementary School & Jacob Hespeler High School. As soon as we got back, we encouraged both boys to learn to skate. Jamie was something of a natural skater & quickly became a competent skater. This lead to him joining the Hespeler Shamrocks Minor Hockey League in 2002, where he played for seven seasons. Jamie started in “Novice”, playing either Left wing or Defense. Hockey became one of Jamie’s passions and a considerable part of his young life, year round, whether HMHA,
tournaments, summer hockey, street hockey or just shooting pucks up the driveway. Consequently, Hespeler Arena became something of a second home. Ultimately, Jamie did have some good competitive experiences playing on the AE travel teams, & at that time he was often on the ice 6 days a week, this was probably the fittest time of his life.
Jamie had a strong sense of humour, enjoying good jokes, he loved reading joke books & remembering the jokes he liked the best. He often used to joke during anxious situations.
Jamie had a very varied work experience in the Cambridge area, from truck washing, to factory work, to fork lift operation, to cementing foundations. He openly acknowledged that he didn’t really know exactly what he wanted to do with his life. Probably he was most successful working in several restaurant kitchens. He developed into a very good cook, after being taught extensive scratch cooking skills at Beertown restaurant on Hespeler Road. He could season & perfectly cook delicious steaks, he was also a “dab” hand at brining & cooking turkeys for special occasions. He always looked very professional when dressed in his chef’s white suits, whilst working in the kitchen. Whilst Jamie was good in the kitchens, he felt that advancement prospects were limited without appropriate qualifications. He also did not like the anti social working hours.
Jamie became a teenage father to two daughters (Delainey & Teagan) in 2010 & 2011 respectively. He did enjoy the time he spent with his daughters, when he wasn’t working or sleeping after late shifts.
In 2021 Jamie & his Mum returned to England, his first trip to England since we left in 2001. He did really enjoy this trip, where they travelled too several parts of the county, to visit his old school & where we used to live in Christchurch. In particular he was very taken with the Stonehenge megalithic structure.
He also got a good feel for his British Heritage & enjoyed visiting the local pubs in the London area, trying the local beers whilst they were there.
Jamie had varied interests, enjoying learning new things. As well as enjoying playing various X-Box computer games,Jamie also was a good Flight Simulator pilot, who enjoyed the challenges of the more complex simulations. This also lead to a larger interest in aviation in general & very good plastic scale model aircraft building skills. He also enjoyed playing the bass guitar as another means of relaxation.
Jamie was intelligent, he researched subjects that interested him & enjoyed intellectual & sometimes passionate debate on a wide range of subjects, often supporting his position with information he had read in books or on the internet. Recently he had taken to reading the Bible & was in the process of reading it in its entirety.
Rest In Peace Jamie, we will always miss you. Your loss will be mourned forever, by Mum Christine, Dad Chris, brother Geoff, Geoff’s partner Emma and by his two daughters Delainey & Teagan.
A Memorial Service for Jamie will take place at St. James’ Anglican Church (520 Ellis Rd, Cambridge, ON N3C 0E6) on Saturday, July 13th at 1pm. Followed by a Reception in the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the House of Friendship.
