Reverend James «Pat» Whyte
It is with heavy hearts that the family of James «Pat» Whyte announce his passing on Monday April 17th at 90 years of age.
Loving husband of Judy Whyte for 33 years. Proud father of Martin Whyte (Amy), Matthew Whyte, and stepson Andrew McAlpine (Nathalie). Dear grandfather of Andrea, Danielle, Marcus, William, and Alistair. Great-grandfather of Colton, Dixie-Mae, and Rhett.
Pat was born and raised in the U.S.A. After graduating from Illinois College, he felt called to become a Christian Minister. He attended Seminary in Connecticut and became an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, serving as Pastor of Churches in Massachusetts and rural Vermont.
Pat moved to Ontario to be near his beloved family cottage at Jones Falls, ON. He loved his time at the cottage, walking the woods and canoeing around the island.
He served as minister to 3 churches in Lanark County before moving to Deep River, ON, to serve in the Community Church there. After retirement from the church, he moved to Ottawa and continued to perform weddings and funerals.
Pat was a kind and gentle man who loved to listen to the life stories his parishioners and friends wanted to tell. He created his own story through an active interest in genealogy and family ancestry. He lived a long and worthy life.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 21st at 2PM at the Kanata United Church.
