Passed away peacefully at his residence in Wikwemikong on January 19, 2024 at the age of 59.
Beloved son of David (predeceased)
and Beatrice Bondy (nee Wemigwans).
Dear brother of Glen, Sarah (Stephen), May, Beverly (Louie), Clifford (predeceased) and Jeanette (Mona). Predeceased by siblings Eugene (Smackie) Manitowabi
and Jacqueline Manitowabi (nee Enosse).
Loving father to his girls Kayla (Jarvis) and Maxine (Jeff).
The greatest «PoPs» ever to Kobe, Darius, Treyton, Trista, Asher, Morgan, Jayce, Tiana, Riely, Acasius and August.
Godfather to Jonas Bondy, Mike Bondy
and Preston Eshkawkogan.
Godson to David Roy
and Nancy Shawana (both predeceased).
Grandson of Adolphus Wemigwans and Esther Animikwan (Wemigwans nee Fox); and Sarah (nee Shawana)
& Jacob Bondy (all predeceased).
Will be lovingly remembered by his nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Maxie loved and enjoyed his visits with his girls and grandchildren who were his pride and joy.
In his younger years, Maxie played hockey for Wiky Minor Sports Association. He played defence and was a great hockey player in his day.
He continued to play sportsman hockey and was a sportsmanlike player.
Maxie kept the outdoor rink ice making hockey tradition at his parent’s home on Sesame Street for his friends he grew up with
and their families as well as to watch his girls, grandkids, nephews and nieces
learn to skate and play hockey.
Maxie worked for the Wiky Log Homes in his younger years. He was an accomplished log builder and has helped in the construction of many homes; built under his log builder belt and can be seen here on his home reserve, in Little Current, Garden River and other places.
Maxie was a gentle, genuine, kind-hearted Anishnaabe. He would always greet you with his smile, provide a good visit and had a good sense of humour. He would also help out in any situation, whether it be cutting your grass, weed-whacking, clearing brush, building cabins,
and whatever else you asked.
Family and friends will gather
at St. Ignatius Church, Buzwah
on Saturday, January 27, 2024 from 6pm.
Funeral Mass
at Holy Cross Mission Church
on Monday, January 29, 2024 at 11:00am.
Cremation to follow.
