Obituary
After a prolonged battle with cancer and a short stay in hospital, James Kenneth McKay (Jim) passed to his rest on June 3, 2024 in Salmon Arm BC at the age of 81.
Jim was born in Leduc, Alberta on May 21, 1943 to William Kenneth (Kenny) and Lena McKay, and a sister, Betty. The family remained in Leduc and Jim attended the local school and helped at home with his dad’s sign shop. Under his mother’s influence he felt the call to be baptized as a Seventh-Day Adventist Christian and as a result of this decision he decided to attend high school at the Canadian Union College (CUC) high school in Lacombe, Alberta, graduating in 1963. While attending high school, he met his future wife Judy Roper and following her graduation in 1965 they were married on August 24 in Terrace, BC.
Jim attended the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) and received his diploma in drafting and took a job in Edmonton working for Interprovincial Pipelines as a draftsman. The young couple settled in Jim’s hometown of Leduc. There they raised a family of four and eventually, inspired by his father’s sign business, started their own business in 1979 inviting Jesus to be their partner; Jim, Judy, and Jesus, or “Triple J Decals” was born and became a well-respected sign business that served the Leduc and surrounding area.
A few years after the kids moved away from home Jim and Judy sold the family business and moved to Sorrento, BC, 1992 and became involved in various business ventures.
Jim began a battle with cancer in 2019 and finally succumbed on June 3 after a short stay in the Salmon Arm Hospital.
Jim is predeceased by his parents, Kenny and Lena McKay, and his sister Betty (Littman). Judy is comforted by their four children; Corinna (Terry), Kevin (Janet), Darcy (Laurel), and Travis (Erin) as well as 6 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Salmon Arm hospital for their care of Jim through his illness. Jim received hundreds of blood transfusions and the family wishes to encourage blood and blood product donations where possible.
There will be a celebration of life service at some point in July which will be announced.
