Obituary
James Joseph Faulise passed away on the evening of February 19th, 2023 at Whiffletree Farm, Wallace, Nova Scotia at the age of 79. Born on October 2nd, 1943 in Westerly, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late Joseph Faulise and Michelline Caron Faulise. Jim is survived by his partner, Barbara Delicato; sons, David Faulise (Trinity Dix) and Marc Faulise; brother Joseph Faulise (Betsy); sisters, Diane Faulise Donovan , Michelle Faulise (Pat Bruno) and Toni Faulise Keen (Neil), granddaughter Lydia Horak and half-sisters Valerie and Heather. Other than his parents he was also predeceased by his wife, Carol Jespersen Faulise. Jim joined the Navy in 1965 and served four years aboard the USS Glennon as a marine mechanic. He traveled the world while serving, including crossing the equator and going to the Arctic circle. After traveling the world on sea, he traveled around the United States and Mexico on land. He moved to Canada with Carol in 1973. They bought a 50 acre parcel of land in Nova Scotia and turned it into a farm. Neither one of them knew how to farm, but learned quickly with the help of several books and many local farmers. He raised many different types of animals, including dairy cows, pigs, ducks and chickens. Jim and Carol both liked spending time on the water. They bought a sailboat and eventually sailed it to the Bahamas. Jim had an artistic side that showed in his blacksmith work and his boatbuilding. He built a fleet of boats including a dory, a pram, four canoes and eight kayaks. After Carol’s death, Jim spent a bit of time in the U.S. He worked for a while in Florida and Connecticut. Eventually, he met his partner Barbara and started the next phase of his life. They spent the last 23 years together on the farm; gardening, fishing, kayaking and enjoying their time. He led a full and happy life surrounded by good friends and love. He died at home surrounded by loved ones and was cremated shortly after. A celebration of life will be scheduled for the summer.
