Jim Callan, 71 of Priddis Alberta died peacefully at home on Friday October 18 2024. He was born October 22 1952 in Carrickmacross County Monaghan Ireland to Peter and Mary (nee Sheridan) Callan. He was the youngest of 11 children. Jim spent his childhood on the family farm in Ireland before moving with his mother and older siblings to Redding, UK where he trained as a Stone Mason. Jim imigrated in 1973 at the age of 21 to Perth, Western Australia with his mother and 4 of his older siblings their spouses and children. He married Rae Tompkins a Canadian on a backpacking adventure on May 1, 1976 in Bathurst NSW Australia and together they had four children Jody, Teresa, Blaise and James. Jim imigrated again in 1987 to Calgary, Alberta Canada where he resided for over 20 years before retiring in Priddis. Jim was a larger than life character who made friends everywhere he went. He loved his horse Sharpie and he also loved cruising around the trails on his electric trike. He had a wild and adventurous life, he learned to downhill ski in his 40’s and spent his final winters traveling to warm exotic places like Barcelona and Bequia where his favourite thing to do was talk with the locals and try to learn new languages. Jim was known to his siblings as Jimmy and to many of his friends as Seamus, he was a lover of life and as Rae would say he was easy to love. Jim is survived by his wife Rae. His children Jody (Travis) Teresa (Peter) Blaise (Phil)and James. His grandchildren Aoife Angus and Airlie. His siblings Nan (Micheal) Mena(Dave) John (Noreen) Micheal (Mary) and Bernadette (Tom) Jim is predeceased by his parents Peter and Mary, his siblings Margaret (Des) Arthur (Anne) Roseleen (Patrick) Teresa (Jim) and Josie (Noel)
Jim will remembered on Sunday October 27 at St Bernadettes Catholic Church during the 9am Mass and a wake will follow at his family home in Priddis all friends and family are welcome to attend.
