It is with great sorrow that I announce the sudden passing of Jim in my arms on April 20, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, after a brief battle with cancer. Thank you to the nursing staff for taking such good care of him.
He was born on May 9, 1958, in Kitchener to John and Audrey Oates. He spent many summers and holidays in Bayfield. We had talked about retiring there as he had some great memories and I fell in love with it when we visited.
Jim lived in Dundas. He is survived by his wife Sharon, daughter Saralynn, brother Bill (Christine), and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife Pixie, his parents, sister Susan, and grandparents.
He attended Wilfrid Laurier where he earned a BA with Honors in Economics. He was a self-employed accountant from 2012 until his passing, he specialized in small business, after all they are the backbone of our little town Dundas. They were never just a number to him; he cared about the business but equally about the person behind the business. Support local and small. He loved playing the guitar, he was the cook and grill master in our home. Sara and I will miss this greatly.
He was kind, caring, loving, and a great caregiver to his wife who has been in a battle with breast cancer for 10 years. His sense of humor was great, he could make a joke about anything but never an unkind joke. He wanted people to be kind to each other, is that really so hard to do?
Per his wishes there will be no funeral, he was a simple man and did not like attention put upon him. A celebration of life will take place later.
Peace and Love, and Give Peace a Chance, were his favorite sayings, so if nothing else show Peace and Love, and Give Peace a Chance, as you go about your day. Maybe someday we can all live in peace. I know he will be promoting these from heaven.
