It is with great loss and sadness that we announce that James “Jim” Jake Hunter passed peacefully, late in the night of November 8th, 2023. His departure was accompanied by his favourite music, the comforting voices of his children, and the warmth of their clasped hands. In his finals days, he cherished countless visits by many friends and family and enjoyed great conversations and much reminiscing. James, born on August 25, 1959, in Swan River, Manitoba, lived a remarkable 64 years. His early years were spent as a dedicated cowboy, tending to his parent’s cattle farm, and later, he served with distinction in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1979 to 1995, achieving the rank of Warrant Officer.
James is predeceased by and will rest forever with his mother Viola, his brother Allen, and his sister Sylvia “Cindy.” He is survived by his father, Ernest “Berkley,” brother Timothy, his children, Julie Beaulieu (Calvin) and Milo, and a large, loving extended family.
Jake “Jim” Hunter was an amazing person who lived a rich life filled with a loving family, great, supportive friends, and a cherished brotherhood with the Canadian Armed Forces. While it is important to Jake that he be remembered as a Veteran and for his dedicated service in the Canadian Armed Forces, it is also important he also wanted to be remembered as a cowboy, motorcycle enthusiast, a leather-crafter, a competitive marksman, a teacher, a machinist, a lover of music, a traveller, and an amateur photographer!
Whether you knew him as Jake or Jim, he was a true friend, always ready to help, teach, or joke around with. Everyone has a story about Jake “Jim” Hunter ~ his family and friends would love to hear yours!
Jake “Jim’s” family will be forever thankful to the beautiful people who provided care, comfort and dignity at Renfrew Victoria Hospital and Hospice Renfrew.
Jake “Jim’s” final care has been entrusted to Zohr Family Funeral Home, Renfrew, where we will be holding an open visitation with the urn on November 29, 2023 from 2-4pm – All are welcome. If so desired, donations made in memory of James would be appreciated at either the RVH Foundation or Hospice Renfrew.
