Obituary
HINES, James Anthony – With heavy hearts we wish to announce the sudden passing of James Anthony Hines (50) of Lower East Pubnico on March 28, 2023. James is survived by his wife Sarah; and his children Roman and Vanessa. He is also survived by his mother Carolyn; his brother Richard (Corrine); and sisters, Carolyn (Floyd) and Sandra; Mother in-law Anne; and brother in-laws Seth and Saul; along with many nephews and nieces. James was predeceased by pre-term baby Hines; father Leonard; and father in law Gary; his paternal grandparents, Charles and Ada Hines; and maternal grandparents, Elma (Danny) and Ida Larkin. James developed his love for hunting and fishing at a young age, as he loved to spend time with his dad every chance he could. He was always happiest when on the water chasing swords or at the camp he and Roman built with pride. Out in his hunting tree waiting for his chance to get the big one and he finally got him this past fall. His pride and joy was his family, he devoted his life to protecting and providing for them. He could talk and befriend people no matter where he went. He was known for his big personality, and no one ever had to wonder where they stood with him. He was honest to a fault but was always there when needed. He respected the elders and his close friends often treating them with fresh fish and lobster. If he wasn’t on the water you would find him with his buddies, Roman and Bullet (his Golden) off to Barrington with his Tim’s coffee yarning with the boys, or in their local community. He enjoyed his many trips to the city exploring with Vanessa and Sarah. He loved the caring nature his daughter possessed and often teased about being chased with his meds by his little nurse. The family wish to express our appreciation to crew member Kerry Arcon for his support and assisting Roman aboard the Royal Fortune. Richard, Morgan, Bobby and Shawn aboard the Jack Leonard for steaming out to escort the Royal Fortune to home port. The JRCC, the Chedabucto Bay and Captain Joel Bowman and crew with a special thank you to Eric Nickerson for staying on board and providing assistance to James and Kerry as they made their way home. Also the search and rescue helicopter from 413 Greenwood with team lead Sheldon Roy and crew. The East Pubnico Fire Department for providing the family assistance at the wharf. In accordance with James’ wishes, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Barrington. There will be a visitation held for family and friends to gather at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to East Pubnico Fire Department or charity of choice. Online condolences may be sent to huskilson@ns.aliantzinc.ca or you may sign the guest book at www.huskilson.net
James,
I wrote your name in the
sand,
but the waves washed it away.
I wrote your name in the
sky,
but the wind blew it away.
So, I wrote your name in my
heart,
and that’s where it will always stay.
Love,
Sarah

Dad,
I awake each morning to start a new day, but the pain of losing you never goes away.
I go about the things I have to do, and as the hours pass I think again of you.
I want to call you and just hear your voice, then I remember that I have no choice.
For you are not there and now my heart cries just to see you again to tell you goodbye.
To say, Dad, I love you, and I always will.
The day that you left I just didn’t know that you were going where I wouldn’t go,
and now all my memories of you are so dear, but gosh, how I miss you and wish you were here.
Love always,
Roman and Vanessa

James,
You are our baby brother, mom’s baby and dad’s shadow. We were never far from each other growing up and the adventures we had were many. We have shared the stories with all our children of many of them with so many more yet to tell. You will always be close as we hear their laughs as we recite our childhood adventures. We all had good days and bad, but no matter what when we needed each other we always come back together. We hope to make you proud as we fill our void by surrounding your family with all the love and support not only today but always. We will protect them as you yourself would have.
We love you always,
Carolyn, Richard and Sandra
