Jake’s Obituary
Jake Klassen, Age 84, of Nampa passed away peacefully on March 30, 2024 with the love of family by his side at Sutherland Place in Peace River. Jake was born in Buffalo Head, Alberta to Jacob and Helena Klassen. He was the eldest son of 9.
Jake grew up in the LaCrete area and at a young age began working at a number of different jobs. These included working at a sawmill, farming and learning to drive truck. By the age of 16 he was long haul trucking between LaCrete and Edmonton. This helped build his strong work ethic that lasted throughout his life.
Jake moved to Peace River at the age of 23 and continued his trucking career hauling freight for Tony’s Truck Service, hauling freight from Peace River to multiple Northern Alberta locations until 1975. During this time in Peace River Jake married the love of his life, Alice Smith, and became the loving Father of his 3 children. (Linda, Billy and Edwin)
In 1975 Jake and Alice decided to sell their home in Peace River and purchase a farm near Nampa. This is where he proudly called home for the rest of his days. He built his successful farm and continued to truck as well. Hauling coal for awhile in Grande Cache and then becoming a winter log hauler in the Peace River and High Prairie areas. Jake loved being a truck driver and was well known for helping out many other drivers. He became known as “MacGyver” for his problem solving abilities out on the remote winter roads. Farming with his wife, Alice, and driving truck gave him great joy.
Jake loved being a husband and father, a true family man. He loved to spend time with his family camping, boating, water skiing, fishing and visiting around a camp fire. Many family adventures were had, building strong family bonds.
Jake was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Helena Klassen; his brother John Klassen, and grandson Chevy Klassen. He is survived by his loving wife Alice; devoted children Linda (Henry), Billy (Hali), Edwin (Wanda); brothers George (Kathy), Dave (Justine) and Herman (Eva); Sisters Helen, Gertrude, Kathy (Henry) and Eva (George); and grandchildren Trenton, Jay, Cole, Aja, Sheena, Dustin and Ky-Lee.
A Funeral Service to honor Jake’s life will be held at the Peace River, First Baptist Church on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 11:00 AM. The family invite all of Jake’s friends, relatives and neighbours to join them in honoring him at this time.
