Jacqueline Bastien – Smith Obituary
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, niece, and friend Jacqueline G. Bastien-Smith at the age of 52 years on September 16, 2024.
Jackie (Robin Smith) was born to the late Rocky Yellow Horn and Rhonda Bastien in Pincher Creek, AB on May 30, 1972, and was raised on the Piikani Nation. Jackie attended school in Brocket, AB, Canyon, and Matthew Halton and later attended Trapper Creek School in Montana USA. Jackie was a hard worker and took pride in her work. Jackie enjoyed watching fancy dancing at the pow wow, and loved her mini Dr. Pepper and Cranberry juice. Jackie’s favourite colours were black and red, and her favourite music was Fleetwood Mac, Billy Swan, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, David Allan Coe, and Bob Seger. Jackie loved to buy her People magazines to read the stories and do the crossword puzzles, her scratch off crosswords, as well as watching Three’s Company and All in the family. Jackie also loved her perfumes and her jewelry.
Jackie’s family loved her stir fry and salads, and her Christmas and Thanksgiving meals, especially her famous stuffing. Jackie always had to have things done a certain way and was very keen.
Jackie’s dream car was a candy apple red mustang but when it came time to owning one she realized that she wouldn’t be able to take all her children and grandchildren. Jackie was unique, brave, strong, and fearless. Jackie would often go to the movies with her dad as it was their way of bonding. Jackie travelled throughout the USA places such as San Francisco, Las Vegas, Reno Nevada, Redwood forest, Spokane, and Wenatchee, WA. Jackie loved to hang out with her friends and family as they would listen to music, and tell stories.
Jackie was super close to her sister Lori, as she was often found sitting with her reminiscing. Jackie was always at Lori`s and her children all knew where to find her. Jackie was the daughter of a farmer who spent her childhood cherishing the years that she got with her dad. Jackie quoted, “her dad made a promise to be there and that he would never leave her. For 27 years he kept his promise”. Jackie was close to her family in her younger years. Jackie, at the age of 16, welcomed her first born daughter “Jo-Anne”. Jackie met the love of her life Robin at the age of 18 yrs. old and were together for 35 years up until her last final days.
Jackie always called her husband “Lovey” or “C”. When Jackie and Robin started their life together they had Julie (Jewelz), Shawna, Ross, and Felicia. Jackie loved all her children as she always said she was a millionaire as she had 7 beautiful daughters and 3 handsome sons. Jackie loved all her grandchildren. Jackie gave her three granddaughters each their own nickname. Jackie lost a piece of her heart the day she lost her first born Jo-Anne. Jackie struggled with loneliness with the loss of her daughter and her husband would often find Jackie sitting at the table looking at her daughter`s picture. Jackie`s final days were with her husband as they would be travelling together. Jackie loved cooking breakfast for her “Lovey “ and sitting on the couch drinking coffee, and watching news together. Jackie’s husband treasured her and they were the love of each other’s life.
Jackie is survived by her husband Robin Smith; Children: Julie (Ivan), Shawna (Denny), Ross, and Felicia; Grandchildren: Shyne, Erica, Kalysia, Joziah, and Violet.
Jackie is predeceased by her father Rocky Yellow Horn, eldest daughter Jo-Anne Bastien, paternal grandparents Sikipii and Delma Yellow Horn; maternal grandparents Jack and Jenny Bastien.
