Jacob (Jack) Van Der Zwan passed into glory on April 24, 2023. He is survived by his loving wife Janet, his nine children, Ena, Dennis, Michael, James, John, Andrew, Leanna, Nathan, and Tim, 22 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and 1 pre deceased great grandchild.
Jacob was born Jan 10, 1948 in Scheveningen, The Netherlands to Gysbertus and Hieke-Jans Van Der Zwan. He was one of 14 children.
He immigrated to Canada in 1959 and they settled in Langley, BC.
He met Janet in 1966 at a young people’s meeting and they were married on November 24, 1967.
They raised 9 children together in their 56 years of marriage.
Dad worked in construction most of his life installing underground piping and worked up to age 74 when he was diagnosed with ALS.
He served as an elder for many years at Langley Free Reformed Church and was involved in many of the church activities.
The passage he chose for his funeral service was Job 19: 25-27
For I know that my Redeemer lives,
And He shall stand at last on the earth;
And after my skin is destroyed, this I know,
That in my flesh I shall see God,
Whom I shall see for myself,
And my eyes shall behold, and not another.
How my heart yearns within me.
A Memorial Service will be held at Emmanuel Free Reform Church, 3366 Mt. Lehman Rd., Abbotsford, BC on Wednesday May 3, 2023 at 1:00pm.
