Jack Gordon Peever, or as he liked to be called in his later years “Young Jack!” took the hand of Jesus and they entered into Heaven together on a sunny Sunday, August 13, 2023 in his 94th year.
Jack will be forever cherished and remembered by his beloved wife of 66 years, Vera (nee Broderick); son, David (Christina) and daughter, Debbie. Jack was a wonderful loving grandpa to Matthew (Raena), William (Merilee) and Dairid (Anne). Adored Great Grandpa to Broderick, Rose, Wellesley and Ezra. Jack was predeceased by his sister Eileen (Ray Harvey), brother Chuck (Kay); and his parents, Ernest and Bridget (nee O’Hanlon).
Jack was born in Mount Dennis, Ontario and grew up on Beechwood Avenue. He attended Roseland Public school and played baseball with the I.O.F. Although Jack grew up in a time of war and economic depression, these were also days where you would sit on your porch and play the guitar, walk into a recording studio and cut a record for 10 cents. Jack and his brother recorded “Hey Good Lookin!” And “Anytime”. Along with playing guitars on their front steps, Jack thoroughly enjoyed getting together and chewing the fat with the guys!
Jack met his wife Vera when they were in a bowling league together – then after nervously asking Vera’s father for her hand in marriage, they married in 1957 at St. Timothy’s church in Toronto and later moved to Thornhill, Ontario. This is where Jack flourished in his trade as a skilled craftsman at the Medical Sciences Building and Banting & Best Institute at the University of Toronto. In the 1990’s the University of Toronto was restructuring but kept Jack on until his retirement in 1993. He was so grateful to the University for keeping him on, Jack decided to donate his body to science at the University of Toronto.
Jack’s infectious smile was loved by everyone. His determination and enthusiasm infinite and his contribution to the lives of many, priceless. Jack loved to sing to Jesus, play the banjo, attend church and admire God’s creations especially the very large beautiful trees and animals playing in the yard. If you knew Jack, you would know he had an incredible sense of humour and loved telling jokes – and would tell the same two joke’s over and over right to his last days and boy would he laugh when he told them!
Jack’s life was defined by his incredible faith and with his positive outlook, generous spirit, and kind heart, he left a great impression wherever he went. When Jack and Vera moved to Gravenhurst in 1995, they attended Gateway Church where Jack became the founding member of the men’s fellowship team which is still in existence today spreading the word of God through dinners and coffee.
Jack loved Jesus with all his heart and soul. Jesus outstretched his arms today as Jack ran into them and surely was greeted with a powerful “Well done good and faithful servant. Well done!”
In lieu of flowers, donations to Gateway Worship Centre in Gravenhurst would be appreciated. www.gwcg.ca
