Obituary of Jack LeRoy Ord
March 29, 1935 – May 11, 2023
It is with sadness that the family of Jack Ord announces his passing at 88 years of age.
Dear husband of Joyce (nee Salmon) of 64 years; and father to Sharon, Jennifer (Ray Prentice), and David (Tania Dacre). Grandfather to Alex Delisle (Eileen Christie), Kimberly Laplaunte (Ryan), Justin Prentice, Ryan Prentice, and Victoria Ord (Brandon Shamu). Great-grandfather to Hazel Laplaunte.
He attended the University of Toronto for engineering and the University of Illinois for a doctorate in physics before a career as a full professor in physics at the University of Waterloo where he was engaged in teaching, research and faculty activities.
Since 1967, from early May to Thanksgiving, weekends and summers were spent with family at the cottage on Skeleton Lake in Muskoka where he especially enjoyed sailing.
He was an accomplished squash and tennis player, a veritable chess opponent, and a masterful bridge player.
Reading Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings was a preeminent pastime, often starting to reread for the umpteenth time on Bilbo and Frodo’s birthday to fill time between cottage seasons.
At the request of the deceased there will be no funeral. Cremation has already taken place.
