It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Jack Melvin Allan, who passed in his sleep at age 82, on November 1, 2023.
Jack was born on February 21, 1941, in Selkirk, Manitoba, to Eva and John Allan. He married Patricia Clark on November 29, 1964. In 1970 they moved to Summerland, British Columbia, where together they raised their three children: Reynold, Russell, and Lori. Jack was truly devoted to his wife; he and Patricia enjoyed going on several cruises, they spent many evenings together playing cards at the kitchen table, and he took such loving care of Patricia when she had fallen ill.
Jack was an electrician by trade and loved outdoor life including fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling. For many years, Jack was an active member of the Kinsmen and K40 service clubs of Summerland. He also enjoyed curling, pool, and playing shuffleboard up at the Summerland Legion. During the cool winter months, Jack loved to sit by his wood fire, watching FBI TV shows or reading a Louis L’Amour book. And for the past several years, you could find him on his computer every day at 3 p.m. sharp, ready to play Battlefield with his kids and grandkids who joined in from all across the country for an online game or two. «Grampa Jack» loved visiting with or simply seeing pictures and videos of his grandkids and great-grandkids.
Jack was predeceased by his brother, Gerald, and his wife, Patricia. He is survived by his three children, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren: son Reynold (Rozalyn) Allan, granddaughter Richelle (Shane), great-grandchildren Jackson and Gwendoline, and grandson Benjamin; son Russell (Joan) Allan, grandchildren Laura and Michael; daughter Lori (Jason) Blenkinsop, granddaughter Alyssa, great-grandson Corbin, and granddaughter Megan (Stewart).
He was also very close with all his extended family, especially: Marlene and Raymond Stewart; Bruce and Margaret Clark; Connie Clark and Jim Brennen; Perry and Kari-Lee Clark; and Curtis and Peggy Clark.
Jack was a loving and devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend to all whose lives he touched. He will be forever cherished and deeply missed by all.
A Celebration of Life, followed by a light lunch, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 10, 2023, at Providence Funeral Home in Summerland. The service will be live-streamed. To watch the live stream or recording of the service, please click the link below.
