MacPhail, J. Anne,
Fraser’s Grant, Antigonish
County
It is with
broken hearts that we announce the passing of Julia «Anne»
MacPhail, age 74, at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital on
October 6, 2024 surrounded by her loving family and best friend,
Doris, by her side.
Born in
Merland, Antigonish County, she was the daughter of the late Owen and
Mary (Anderson) Wallace.
Anne worked in
several positions over the years; telephone operator, retail, and PCW
at the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home.
She was
challenged with numerous health issues, but her faith always helped
her through saying Novenas often to St. Therese and receiving her
roses. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life; a good cup
of tea, challenging game of cards or dancing the night
away.
She had a
heart of gold and the most infectious laugh that would bring a smile
to anyone’s face, but her ‘Irish temper’
would surface occasionally, if she thought it
necessary.
It was obvious
to see how proud she was of her family. Her grandchildren
were’ the apple of her eye’, and we
can’t forget Nook, their family pet whom she would feed
Jerome’s deer steak and all he could say was «Oh,
Mommy, don’t do that».
Although we
are deeply saddened and the end of life seemed to have come way too
soon, we all know how happy her husband, Jerome, of forty-six years
would have been to welcome mommy home.
She will be
dearly missed by her three children: Derrick; Leah (Ed) MacDonald both
of Fraser’s Grant and Melissa (Jason MacDonald), Pomquet;
grandsons: Dante, Barrett, Cohen, Landen, Greysen and Carter;
granddaughter, Alyx; sister: Gloria (Billy) Wallace,
Fraser’s Grant; brothers: Francis, Merland and Gerard,
Antigonish; sisters-in-law, Tracey Benoit Wallace and Rita Ryan
Wallace as well as several nieces and
nephews.
She was
predeceased by her brother John Thomas and numerous aunts, uncles and
cousins.
Visitation
will be in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish on
Friday, October 12th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9
pm. Funeral Mass will be in Immaculate Conception Church,
Heatherton on Saturday at 11:00 am with Reverend Dennis Lamey
presiding. Cremation to follow.
The family
would like to thank Dr. Khalid and the ICU nurses for the
compassionate care given as well as the Palliative Care Unit at St.
Martha’s Regional Hospital. A huge thank you to
the Guysborough Nursing Home for the love and care given to our mom
the past year and a half.
Donations in
memory of Anne may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the
Alzheimer’s Society. Online condolences:
