A life well lived. Husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, farmer, teacher, builder, woodworker, and so much more. Loving husband of Elinor for sixty years. Beloved father of Merna (Ken), Jennifer (Grant), Heidi (Patrick), and Kelly (late William). Cherished grandfather of Justin (Erika), Kyra (Chris), Mackenzie (Rachael), Emily, Kate (Ciaran),Cora (Elliott), Wilson, Kassandra, Marissa, and Gabriella. Recent great-grandfather of Harper. Born on December 6, 1939 in rural Cottesloe, to Birdie and Robert Everette Moore. Also survived by his sister Laura (Robert) sister in-law Betty special cousin Ralph, predeceased by Hartley, Ernest (Noel), and Mima (Robert). Dad will also be missed by Elinor’s family, Willis, Gary (Beverlie), Bryon (Margaret), Ruth Ann, Sheryn, Deena and sister in-law Shelley, predeceased by David (Sharon). Dad will be missed by his many nieces and nephews.
Dad taught shop at CDCI West in Cobourg for 35 years. Several generations were educated by Dad who taught them the skills of wood working, drafting, metal craft and construction. Some of these students went on to use those skills in their careers. To this day, former students fondly reminisce about “Jivin Ivan” and his alleged adventures in the North.
Six homes and one barn owe their existence to Dad as he built every house that he and mom owned during their 60 years together.
One of his many accomplishments was the co-founding of Moore Orchards. Mom and Dad took a landlocked parcel of land in Hamilton Township and put in the work, creating a thriving commercial orchard, providing apples, strawberries, raspberries, pears, blueberries, and cider to the surrounding community.
Ever the busy man, Dad retired several times: first from teaching, then from farming, then from farming again, and again. Mom and Dad took numerous trips exploring the world, and enjoyed visiting orchards and agricultural operations around the globe. They managed to check off all but two continents, one of which was Antarctica.
Dad was particularly proud of his children and 10 grandchildren, taking great joy in their accomplishments whether they be academic, athletic, career-based, or personal. He often commented how fortunate he and mom were that seven grandchildren had graduated from university so far, and that the youngest 3 were well set up for success.
Grandpa was prone to repeating, “if you don’t have time to do it right the first time, what makes you think you’ve got time to do it again?” To the best of my knowledge, we only get one life and considering all that grandpa accomplished in his life, I would say he took his time and got it right the first time.
Forever gorgeous. Oula, boula. See you in the movies.
A special thank you to Dr. Emma Smith who provided such kind and compassionate care to Ivan. Also, thanks to Mara and Andre and the staff and volunteers of Ed’s House for the special care they gave Ivan.
