Isabel Moura passed away on Monday, October 28th 2024 in her 93rd year. She is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years Joao Moura. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her children Carlos Moura (Lucy) and Cidalia Figueiredo (Manny), as well as her five grandchildren Christopher (Christal), Andrew (Sarah), Alex (Sarah), Krista and Nicole, and five great-grandchildren Chloe, Carter, Kenzie, Olivia and James, and many more extended family members and friends.
She is survived by her sisters Lourdes of Cambridge, Ontario, Angela of Santa Maria, Azores, Maria of Hayward, California, Isaltina of Yucaipa, California and brother Saul of Taunton, Massachusetts. She is now reunited in heaven with her brothers Eduardo, Antonio, and Jose Urbano Tavares.
Isabel was born in Santa Maria, Azores and immigrated to Canada with her husband and two children in 1967 where they built a beautiful life together. Isabel prided herself on being a hard worker but was an equally amazing mother and grandmother to her family. Isabel was always a woman ahead of her time. Even as a young woman in Portugal, she was not afraid to challenge patriarchal norms and stand up for what was right. Isabel had a bright and fierce personality and was known by all who knew her as quite the conversationalist. She has always had an amazing sense of humour and we will forever hold on to her many witty comments over the years.
We are extremely grateful for the Personal Support Workers who have helped us care for Isabel during this time – Meghan and Ascensao. Our deepest thanks to you both for extending such great care and kindness to Isabel during the past several months and for helping us to navigate these difficult times. Although the world seems a little dimmer without her bright light in it, we cannot help but smile when thinking about what is waiting for her at heavens gates. As a young woman, Isabel suffered the loss of two of her brothers and both of her parents within a short time frame – four losses that she never quite recovered from. We cannot help but imagine what their reunion looks like.
Loved ones are invited to a visitation at Corbett Funeral Home on Wednesday October 30th from 7:00-9:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Thursday October 31st at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church (185 Elgin St. S, Cambridge) and a private family burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
