Irene Rutherford (nee Pike) passed away peacefully on Jun 26 2023 while at Regency Long Term Care, Port Hope, ON. Born Nov 5 1925, she grew up in Belfast, Northern Ireland, being the youngest of her 3 sisters: “May”, “Sadie” and “Nan”. She assisted in the family dressmaking business. She met and married her husband Frank, later moving to Toronto in 1957. Their son John was born in 1958.
In Toronto, Irene ran the household while delving into housing and real estate with her sister Sadie. She enjoyed travel to US and Canada, singing to herself and had a great sense of humour. She frequently wrote letters to family in Ireland and Australia to keep in touch. She was always interested in what other people were doing and was a wonderful conversationalist enjoying the company of friends and family throughout the years.
Later in 2006, Irene and Frank retired to Port Hope, ON. They lived together happily until Frank’s passing in 2010. Irene continued to live at the Tower until 2021 when she moved to Regency Manor. She was appreciative of the care and attention she received from staff with special thanks to Karen and Shelley.
Irene also spoke frequently of the lasting relationships with friends Mariam, the Cuthbert and Paynter families. Irene is survived by her loving son John, and members of the Jobe and McKay families.
She will be greatly missed. Please join us in Irene’s celebration of life to be held on
Friday July 7 2023 at Ross Funeral Chapel 135 Walton St, Port Hope, ON
