Obituary
It is with great sorrow the family announces the passing of Irene McParland (nee Roy) age 92 at Eastholme-Home for the Aged in Powassan on the evening of Saturday, February 4th, 2023.
Beloved and devoted wife of the late Clifford McParland. Much loved mother and friend to Lorraine (Terry) Barber, Roy (Leslie) McParland, Gail (John) Sherman, Peter (Antoinette) McParland and Brenda (Al) Rose. She will be missed by her loving grandchildren Lindsay, Ashlee, Delaina, Julianne, Ryan, Alexandra, Carmelina, Maria, John and Matthew, and great grandchildren Avery, Miller, Bellamy, Clark, Vada, Luke, Jake, Emilie, Lili and Jamieson.
Predeceased by her parents Alfred and Annette Roy (nee St. Pierre), sisters Vivianne Geddes, Aline Church, Mary Jane Purdon, Claire Lebrasseur, Cecile Roy and brothers George, Roland, Leo, Bert and Maurice Roy. Irene will be missed by several nieces and nephews.
Mom’s greatest joy in life was her devotion to her family, lovingly caring for her five children when dad was “on the road” as a CPR locomotive engineer. Mom’s cinnamon rolls, apple, blueberry and sugar pies were legendary. Mom was blessed with a wonderful sense of humor and was very quick-witted; this was most evident during a friendly game of cards. Mom loved to read and watch curling, she enjoyed travelling and was quite the league bowler. Our family home on Martin St. was a place of immense happiness for mom as friends and family often gathered by the family pool and later at mom and dad’s retirement home at Beaucage on the lake. Mom was a wise woman and was our greatest encourager. Mom’s most important life lessons were the power of prayer and the importance of having faith in God. You are forever loved, Mom!
A heartfelt thank you to the Eastholme staff for their outstanding dedication and care.
As per mom’s wishes, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held to celebrate the life of Irene at Saint Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church (North Bay) on Thursday, February 9th, 2023, at 11:00 am. A Christian burial will take place at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to McGuinty Funeral Home.
