Obituary
Irene Gilmore of Winnipeg passed away on Monday, August 28th at the grand age of 97 years.
Irene was born in Portage La Prairie, the daughter of Alex and Annie Freed. She lived most of her adult life in Portage La Prairie and was predeceased by her husband Fred in 1992 and her precious grandson Jared in August, 2000. She is survived by her daughter, Lori Ann Love in Winnipeg, her son Randy (Carla) Gilmore in Calgary, AB, her sister Jean MacDonald and her niece Arlene MacDonald.
She was an active member of the Army and Navy Club in Portage La Prairie and the Royal Canadian Legion for many years. Her first job was delivering telegrams on her bicycle for Canadian National Railway in Portage.
Irene and her husband Fred spend many years building and enjoying a cottage on Lake Manitoba in Wood’s Creek near Manipogo Provincial Park. All the family would gather there in the summer, fishing, feeding the birds, watching the chipmunks, etc. These were some of the best years of her life.
She loved doing her crossword puzzles, knitting, playing cards, bingo and having fun dressing up for parties.
She enjoyed the active social club with her friends in Winnipeg at Ashbury Place and her final years in the Metropolitan Kiwanis Courts and West Park Manor. Thanks to all the staff who looked after her in past few years.
At Irene’s request, there will be no funeral service. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all our small family.
