It is with profound sadness that the family of Irene Ella Smith (nee Cook) announce her sudden passing on May 12, 2024 at the age of 95. She is the daughter of the late Otto Cook and the former Annie Lantz.
Irene was born in North Easthope on February 6, 1929. Beloved wife of the late Olin Court Smith (2016). Cherished mother of Dianne Smith, Gloria Hinz (Wayne/2016), James “Jim” Smith (Deb/2015) and Bruce Smith (Rose-Marie). Beloved grandma of Olin Smith (Deb), Steven Hinz (Liliane), Leanne Kisielius (Justin), Jake Smith and Dylan Smith. Beloved great-grandma of Aiden Kisielius and Aria Kisielius. Irene is survived by her sister-in-law Marion Cook, nephew Carl Cook and niece Beth Martin.
She was predeceased by her father-in-law William Smith and her mother-in-law Susan (nee Court), brother-in-law Grant Smith and her brother John Cook.
Friends and relatives will be received at Avondale United Church, 194 Avondale Avenue, Stratford, ON. on Thursday, May 16, 2024. Visitation will be held from 1 – 2 pm with a service to follow at 2 pm. A time of fellowship and refreshment will be held afterward. Irene is to be buried in St. Andrew’s Cemetery in North Easthope.
