It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Iona Schieman, who departed from this world at the Palace Care Home in Alexandria, Ontario. Iona, at the age of 95, left a legacy of love, care, and devotion as a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her memory will forever be etched in our hearts.
Iona was the loving mother to her three adoring children: Susan (Leonard Stamm), Paul (Janet), and John (Gynette). Her role as a grandmother was a testament to her warmth and affection, as she embraced Paul, Bryan, Louis, and David Stamm, Jonathan, Christopher, and Daniel Schieman, as well as Mathieu (Brien), Jean Francois, and Stephanie Martin-Schieman. She also held a special place in the hearts of numerous other grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom will remember her with fondness. Additionally, she leaves behind several nieces and nephews who cherished her.
Iona is reunited with her beloved husband of 60 years, Arnold Schieman, and her dear brother, Jack Nichol, in the hereafter. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Ruth Nichol, residing in Edmonton, Alberta.
Iona, born on October 23, 1928, in Elora, Ontario to Amanda and George Nichol, was also sister to the late Jack Nichol. Together with her husband, Arnold, she journeyed from Montreal to settle in Belleville, Ontario, where they built a life filled with love and community.
During her time in Belleville, Iona served as the Medical Librarian at the Belleville Health Centre, and she selflessly devoted many years to volunteering at the Belleville General Hospital. Her dedication to healthcare and her compassion for others touched the lives of many.
In Belleville, Iona cultivated deep and lasting friendships, particularly in her later years, with the support and camaraderie of many cherished friends. She was an active member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Evangelical Church in Belleville, where she contributed to the spiritual community.
Iona’s memory will continue to shine brightly in our hearts, reminding us of her love, her service, and her unwavering dedication to family and community. Her legacy of love and kindness will be cherished and remembered always.
Funeral arrangements under the care and direction of the Munro & Morris Funeral Home Ltd., 114 Main Street S., Alexandria, Ontario (613-525-2772) Interment of ashes in Cemetery, Belleville. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. As a Memorial to Iona a tree will be planted in a memory woods. A tree grows-memories live.
