Moncton, NB – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Louis Burke, 97, that occurred at the Villa du Repos in Moncton, on Saturday, November 23rd, 2024.
Born in Moncton, he was the son of the late Walter Burke and the late Lena (Nowlan) Burke.
In his younger years, Louis was a professional Boxer in Worcester, Massachusetts . After he got married, he worked in the shipping department at Eaton’s, and later went on to work as Head of Maintenance at the Villa Heritage in Moncton. Some of his passions included hunting, wine making, skating with reachers , and gardening , especially tomotoes which were plentiful and would share with everyone . He enjoyed going to the dance each week with his wife and dear friends Doreen and Norman and once won a contest for doing ” The Twist ” when he was 81 years young. He was well known for being a hard worker, and was proud of being able to build his own house and cottage. He was a very smart man and a problem solver and would have done anything to help his family and friends. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 76 years of marriage, Geraldine Burke; his four children: Rachel, Louis Jr, Dan (Karen), Wayne (Michelle); his four grandchildren: Sara (Keith), David (Krista), Sean, and Ryan; his two great grandchildren: Jackson, and Ella; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Beside his parents, he was predeceased by his two sons: Paul (infant), and Guy.
There will be no visitation or funeral service. Interment will be held in the Our-Lady-of-Calvary Cemetery in Dieppe at a later date.
Donations in Louis’s memory can be made to the Salvation Army, Alzheimer’s society, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
