It is with sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Hervé Gagnon, on June 29, 2024 at the Foyer Saint-Antoine, at the age of 80. Born in Saint-Antoine de Kent, Hervé spent most of his life in Irishtown, where he lived a life filled with love and devotion for his family and community.
Hervé was very involved in community life, particularly at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church and the Irishtown Community Centre. His generosity touched many lives, and he will be remembered as a kind-hearted and caring soul. He was also involved in many community organizations to help the sick, the homeless and children’s groups.
Hervé studied accounting at Collège Sacré-Cœur in Bathurst and at the Université de Moncton. He first worked at Abbey-Landry Construction for several years before joining the Gagnon Overhead Doors family business, where he worked until his retirement.
Hervé was a devoted husband, father, brother and friend. He is survived by his two children: Serge (Marie Thibeault) and Suzanne (Roger LeBlanc). He was also a loving grandfather to his four grandchildren: Sophie, Madeleine, Pascal and Marc-Étienne, with whom he loved to spend time and help them discover new things.
Hervé is also survived by three brothers: Normand (Pauline), Clarence (Julie), Émerie (Stella) and two sisters: Délina (Gary) and Jeannette (Maurice), sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and was particularly close with his sister-in-law, May (late Paul), as well as many nieces and nephews from the Gagnon and LeBlanc families.
Hervé was predeceased by the love of his life, his beloved wife, Florine, and his parents, Aurore and Adélard Gagnon.
He loved all his travels with Florine, creating many precious memories together through their adventures in Canada and other countries. He also enjoyed group trips with Voyages Positifs, as well as the annual hiking and fishing trip to Maine with his brothers-in-law and other relatives, and even solo trips to Medjugorje later in his life.
Hervé had many passions, but especially loved outdoor activities, such as taking walks in the forest, chopping wood, gardening, as well as hunting and fishing. He was definitely happiest when spending time outdoors.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Foyer Saint-Antoine for their loving care of Hervé over the past months. A special thank you to Natasha, Alice, Arinola, Ijeoma, Paul and Chantal, who provided him with exceptional home care over the past year. Their dedication and compassion greatly supported Hervé and his family during this time.
The visitation will take place at Passage (3754, Route 134, Shediac Bridge, NB), on Thursday, July 4, 2024, from 9:30 to 11 am and from 1 to 3 pm. The funeral will follow at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church (Irishtown) at 4 p.m. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery where he will rest in peace with Florine.
In his memory, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or the CHU Dumont Foundation.
The family invites you to sign a book of condolences at: www.funerairepassagefuneral.ca.
