Sorrowfully missed by his family, Ian passed
away November 7, 2023, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, NS
after a long illness. Born August 29, 1938, Wolfville, he was the
oldest son of the late Ruth L. (Porter) MacPherson and Rev. Austin
Donald MacPherson. He is survived by children of former wife, Donna
Smith MacPherson, Yarmouth NS; son, Sean MacPherson, Yarmouth NS;
daughter, Katie MacPherson (Robert) Cudmore, Coldbrook NS;
grandchildren Nicholas (Amanda) Cudmore, Darcie Cudmore; his loving
partner Freda Murray Judge, Hatchet Lake, NS and her children Kirby,
Margo, Murray, Walter & Melanie; siblings Rev. D. Neal
(Leilani) MacPherson, and his children Christy, Mairi and Iain of
Honolulu HI and Katherine (Bruce Anderson) MacPherson, NS. Ian lived
his youth in Canning, Fredericton, Middleton & Wolfville and
spent his professional career as a teacher and Principal in Yarmouth
town schools, Yarmouth Junior High and South Centennial. Devoted to
community issues of justice and union representation of teachers, he
was also involved in political life, running twice federally for the
New Democratic Party. Loving sports, baseball (Blue Jays), swimming,
curling, golf, downhill skiing, hockey, camping & fishing. He
was an active member of various teams, courses and clubs from an early
age, serving as coach for youth. His passion for travel held special
memories and adventures with family, making many lasting friendships
from all over. He regularly combined his love of classical music and
opera with travel destinations. His special humour and characteristic
interest in ideas, politics and social philosophy made serious
conversations laced with fun. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses
and staff of Med A at VRH who cared for him over the past months.
Cremation has taken place and a graveside funeral will be announced at
a later date. Donations can be made in his memory to the VON Canada,
Canadian Blood Services or charity of your choice. Funeral
arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and
