Obituary
BREWER, Ian MacLaren – With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Ian MacLaren Brewer in the early hours of May 8, 2023 at the age of 97. Ian was born the 4th child of 8 to Harry St. Clair and Melissa Gertrude (nee MacInnes) Brewer on December 30, 1925 in Arthurette, New Brunswick. He will be deeply missed by his loving companion of 10 years, Bonnie Gallagher. Loving father of Linda (Willy) Warner, Michael (Mandi) Brewer, David Brewer, Terry Brewer and Sandy (Jim) Skingley. Cherished grandfather of Bobby, Jimmy and Jennifer Warner, Amy Lee McIntyre, Ian and Ryan Skingley, as well as many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Preedceased by his parents, siblings Verna Bradford, Claire McDonald, Albert Brewer, Jean MacKellar, Alexander Brewer, George Brewer, John Brewer and his wife of 42 years Loretta (nee Gibson, 1991). In the fall of 1943, Ian joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and began basic training in Toronto. He was transferred to Belleville, Ontario and trained in navigation, continuing Air Raid School in Quebec. After graduation Ian was posted back in New Brunswick, where he became a Navigator Bombardier flying Mosquito aircraft. He was then relocated to an Air Gunner school in Prince Edward Island, where he took on the role of Sergeant. At the end of this training Ian was sent to Nova Scotia for posting overseas, but the war ended within a month and he was transferred to the Reserve General Section Class E. Ian worked for the Canadian National Railway as Yard Master until retirement at age 65. He was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish, and was an avid woodworker. Later, his passion turned to golf, which led him to the greens of Rolling Meadows Golf Course on most days. There he was fondly referred to as the ‘Silver Fox’ by many members and friends. He loved to share stories of his younger years in New Brunswick and travels across Canada. He experienced life to its fullest and touched many lives through his 97 years and will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Special thanks to Dr. Henry and the nurses from Paramed who ensured Ian was comfortable and well taken care of. We are most appreciative to the many PSWs who were a tremendous help, with special mention for the exceptional care given by Pablo Mojarro. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to join the family at the PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, 6062 Main St. Niagara Falls, visiting Wednesday May 24, 2023 from 11 am to 1 pm. A Funeral Service in celebration of his life will be held at 1 pm at the funeral home, followed by interment at Fairview Cemetery. Online condolences at pattersonfuneralhome.com
