Ian A. MacLean
1938-2024
It is with profound sadness that the family of Ian Anderson MacLean
shares the news of his sudden passing at the Saint John Regional
Hospital on August 13, 2024.
Ian was born in Moncton, NB on October 12, 1938. He was predeceased
by his parents Charles and Marjorie MacLean, and his younger brother
Rod MacLean and his former wife Judy Stephenson Bulmer.
Ian began his education at St. Peter’s Boys School and later
graduated from Saint John Vocational (now Harbourview High) 1956. He
then took the Telecommunications program at the same school and
finished in 1957. This allowed him to begin his world travels as a
radio operator on large cargo ships. He would later travel back to
many of the places he stopped in his travels for pleasure.
Ian will be remembered as a devoted father and grandfather, a kind and
humorous uncle, an exceptional tour guide, animal lover, the middle
child and a good friend to many. He usually had a twinkle in his eye
and a corny joke to share. For Ian, life was a great adventure was a
lifelong learner, teaching himself photography, Photoshop, and
technology. In his retirement, he moved to Quebec to learn French and
stayed for 17 years after meeting Bernice Cameron. The two of them
traveled extensively and he rediscovered his love of photography which
he honed even more after he moved back home to Saint John by joining
several local photography clubs. He looked forward to the outings
planned by the clubs.
He is survived by his brother Colin (Helene), MacLean of Edmonton, AB;
daughter Brenda (Vince) Kilfoil of Florenceville-Bristol; son Greg
(Amy) MacLean; grandchildren Aidan, Delaney, Maura and Laughlin
Kilfoil, Preston and Mason MacLean.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road
(506-646-2424) with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday,
August 17, 2024. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the
Fundy Chapel. Ian will be buried at a private family burial at a later
date in Johnville, NB. Donations can be made on his behalf to a
charity of the donor’s choice.
