It is with great sadness that we, the family of Hugh Irwin Ross, announce his sudden passing on August 12, 2024, at MacDougall Court, Harbourstone Enhanced Care, while in the presence of his ever-loving wife of 26 years, Carole (Ravanello) Ross.
Irwin was born at home in Little Narrows on July 17, 1939, and was the son of the late Thompson and Katherine (Matheson) Ross.
He is survived by his son, Jonathon (Sally) Ross; daughter, Christa (Brian) Power; granddaughters, Gracie and Emma Power and Sophia Ross, all of Grand Prairie, Alberta; sister, Faye (the late Harry) LeMoine; brother, Alvin (Wilena) Ross and their families; stepchildren, Jennifer and Will Swander and their families of Alaska and California.
Irwin worked for auto dealerships in Sydney, prior to moving to Middle River where he was employed by Midway Motors until his retirement.
Irwin was a member of the Sydney Riverview Y’s Men Service Club and enjoyed times spent with his friends there.
He was an avid sports fan, especially hockey and basketball, and could occasionally be found at the track watching harness racing. Throughout the years, Irwin was part of local curling teams, as well as being a spectator of various tournaments.
Irwin cherished his memories of going “up country” and looked forward to visiting there whenever he could.
As per his wishes, he has been cremated, and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of one’s choice.
