It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, dad and “Pa”. Hubert was born on April 10, 1942 on Bell Island, Newfoundland and passed away peacefully on September 12, 2024 at Cambridge Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.
Left to mourn Hubert is his wife of 57 years, Ivy. Amazing dad to John (Angela) Fitzgerald and Jennifer (Jamie) Smith. Hubert’s pride and joy were his 3 granddaughters and 1 grandson, Amanda (Brandon Rebelo) Fitzgerald, Sarah Fitzgerald, Brody Smith & Brianne (Cole Mitchell) Smith.
Dear brother of Madonna Cole, Lorraine Galway, Lloyd, Wayne and Gary. Brother-in-law of Barbara Fitzgerald, Joan Fitzgerald, Dianne Fitzgerald & Jim (Christine) Doyle. Hubert will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Predeceased by his parents, Gordon & Elsie Fitzgerald (nee Clarke). Brothers Gerald, Gordon “June” Jr., Robert “Bob” & Glen. Sisters Lynda and Debbie Boone.
Hubert loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved watching WWE wrestling, reading Archies comics, doing jigsaw puzzles or simply being the neighborhood watch at home with Ivy. On Tuesday evenings you would find him having beer at his brother Lloyd’s house. The two of them enjoyed many chats in the backyard or in the basement solving all of the world’s problems, listening to Newfoundland music and reminiscing about family and friends, both here and gone.
Family welcomes friends to remember Hubert on Sunday September 15, 2024 at Corbett Funeral Home (95 Dundas St. N., Cambridge). Visitation to be held from 12:00 to 1:00 with funeral service to follow at 1:00. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the Cambridge Newfoundland Club immediately following the service.
A private interment will be held at a later date.
As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Cambridge Memorial Hospital where Hubert received excellent care in his final days.
A very special thank you to Lloyd, Barb and Stephanie. Your love and support has not gone unnoticed these last few days. We will be forever grateful.
