Obituary
Surrounded by his son, daughters and daughter-in-law, Hubert Joseph Crawley, of Gaskiers, St. Mary’s Bay, passed away peacefully at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, on June 16, 2023, at the age of 90 years.
Dad is predeceased by his wife Patricia (nee Tobin), infant daughter Mary, parents William & Monica Crawley (nee Power), parents-in-law John & Catherine Tobin (nee Dobbin); brothers: Reginald, John, Peter and Chris; brothers-in-law: Bernard, Mike, Jimmy and Ed; sisters-in-law: Noreen, Marg, Marie, Anne Marie and Ethel; niece Raylene and special cousin Irene Martin (nee Crawley) who loved our dad dearly.
Leaving to mourn, his daughters Valerie (Francis) and Elaine (Trevor), son Roy (Connie), grandchildren: Christopher (Kayla), Alison (Brandon), Brooklyn (Travis), Daniel, Tanner and Carter; Shelby (Justin), Olivia and Amelia, brothers Willie (Helen) and Ray, sister Marie (Jim); sisters-in-law: Frances (Joe), Anna (Andy), Ellen, Emma and Marg, brother-in-law Johnny (Anne), a large circle of nieces, nephews and cousins of the Crawley and Tobin families and the many friends he made in his journey through life.
We would like to thank the staff at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital for the compassion shown to our family during his final days. A special thank you to Admiral’s Coast Retirement Home, C.B.S., for the love and care they provided to Dad over the past two and a half years. They loved him and he loved them, especially Pam and Aleisha who doted on him. Thank you to Paula Fleming for taking care of Dad while he was still at home in the Gaskiers. Also thank you to everyone who took time to visit Dad. He loved to have visitors and catch up on the latest news.
Dad was a hard worker his whole life, spending many years working in the North, Labrador, Greenland, or wherever he needed to go to provide the best for his family.
Dad was legendary for his dry humor. He was always quick witted to have a good laugh, especially when he got together with his brothers and buddies, on any occasion. Dad was a man of few words and would only give his opinion when asked – or mumbled it under his breath, even if not asked.
The strength Dad showed over the past few years is a testament to the strong man he was for our family. He was certainly one of a kind and will be missed everyday by all who had the good fortune to have known him.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, St. Mary’s, on Wednesday, June 21, from 1 – 4pm; 5 – 8pm, followed by Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, June 22, at 11am. Interment to follow for everyone at Dad’s graveside. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or to a charity of one’s choice.
