In loving memory of Hortense “Horty” Lalonde (nee Rioux) 96 years. Passed away peacefully at Pioneer Manor on Saturday, August 24th, 2024.
Beloved wife of 42 years to Wilfrid Lalonde predeceased in 1990. Loving mother of Gerald “Gerry” (Ruth), Conrad “Con” (Christine), Richard “Rick” (Kim), Michael “Mike” (Giovanna), and Cheryl Lavallee (Dean). Cherished grandmother of Justin, Ryan, Douglas, Darryl, Robyn, Megan, Courtney, Heather, and Leanna, and great grandmother of 14.
Predeceased by her parents Arthur and Beatrice “Bea” Rioux (nee Dumais). Dear sister of Martha Seguin (Gerald), Gabrielle Vaillancourt (Edward), Anita Lebel (Roland), and Donald Rioux (Evelyn) all predeceased. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Horty was born in Chelmsford on September 19th, 1927. She married Wilfrid on June 10th, 1948, and together they raised their 5 children. She worked at Sears for 18 years, retiring in 1990. She had a passion for gardening and won a best in show trophy from the City of Sudbury’s Horticultural Society for best garden. She was a devout catholic and a longtime member of St. Andrew the Apostle Church, celebrating her 50 years in 2010. She was a past member of the CWL, and the woman’s church choir. She was also a past member of the Troubadour Choir, and Northern Lights Choir. Mom had many artistic passions, including quilting, Afghans, and many crafts.
A memorial service will be held in the R.J. Barnard Chapel 233 Larch Street, Sudbury, Ontario) date and time will be announced shortly. For those unable to attend in person, the service can be viewed via livestream link will be provided. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium with burial alongside her husband in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Chelmsford at a later date.
